On Saturday, May 3rd, eight NJ-RPCVs and friends volunteered at Duke Farms in Hillsborough, NJ for Jersey Cares Day. Jersey Cares Day is an annual volunteer day organized by Jersey Cares. Volunteers from all over New Jersey unite for the common goal of revitalizing local communities. In its 16th year, Jersey Cares Day expanded to 14 New Jersey counties and engaged 2,000 volunteers in meaningful acts of service in 2014. This is the second year that RPCV-NJ participated in Jersey Cares Day.
The RPCVs joined a group of about 40 volunteers in clearing a large area of invasive and overgrown plant species to make way for a new and beautiful garden for visitors. Duke Farms offers 1,000 acres of the property to the public, along with educational programs focused on good stewardship practices and increased opportunities for research related to ecological sustainability of our regional environment.
It was a really fun day!
