Growing up in Fayette Co. Pa. Jim graduated in 1961 from Delaware Valley College in Doylestown Pa in 1961 and began a teaching career in agricultural sciences. During a State visit to the US in 1968 President Francois Tombalbaye of Chad specifically requested an agriculture specialist and home economist to be fielded to his home village. This request was passed by President Johnson to the Peace Corps which selected Jim and his wife Betty for this assignment which led to a direct personal relationship with this President over a 2-year period
from 1971-73 and a number of notable achievements. Jim went on to obtain a Masters degree from Lehigh University and a PhD from Penn State where he went on to teach. He later worked overseas with the UN and USAID and on his return home served for nine years as the Dean of Agricultural Sciences at Delaware Valley College. He has written four books, the most recent being “I Did What I had to Do!” published in 2010 about his experiences in Chad. He is now retired and lives with his wife at their home in Ottsville, Pa although he remains
active in speaking engagements and humanitarian work.
